We at DHZ Solutions AS have had a hectic year in 2013 with a lot of exciting opportunities and yet lovely challenges.
From the eyes of an outsider we were engaged with all the activities and commotion required to get PVTmaster in place as the masterpiece of the Company. That is partly true. Thanks to all dedicative efforts from the development and sales team, we are now in a position to significantly expand the market in 2014. The number of downloads and requests for quotation dramatically increased in the last quarter of the year, vowing for a hot start in the New Year.

But other than PVTmaster we had also excellent progress in other business potential areas at the Company, above all; a
novel passive fire protection material that you will hear more about it in the next year.

In 2013
we were also involved in few research projects which will be still in progress in the coming months to let us plan on directions and circumstances of the upcoming activities.

All of us at DHZ Solutions AS wish you a warm festive holiday season and a very prosperous year ahead in 2014.

Happy New Year!

Norway is a European leader in terms of oil and natural gas production. The Norwegian government announced Monday it gave its consent for the deployment of two drilling rigs in its territorial waters.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said it gave its consent to Det Norske to start an exploration campaign in the southern waters of the North Sea. The government said drilling should last about 60 days once it begins Aug. 1. The rig is targeting reserves in shallow waters.

Det Norske focuses its activity in the Norwegian continental shelf. The company last week reported its physical production for June at 9,655 barrels of oil per day. The company added it purchased a geological survey from the government to examine the reserve potential in the Barents Sea.

NPD said Monday it gave Lundin Petroleum approval to conduct exploratory drilling in the central waters of the North Sea using a mobile drilling platform. The energy regulator said the campaign should last about 21 days, but that estimate depends on whether there's a discovery.

NPD Director General Bente Nyland said in June eight discoveries had been made so far this year on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Patenting in Norway

5/9/2013

Protecting the exclusive rights for an invention and preventing others from trespassing the intellectual properties of an entity, patenting is nowadays of an ever increasing importance for every firm and particularly hi-tech companies. And we think that is why we receive so many inquiries from our colleagues on how to start filing a patent and get it granted.
Here in this post we provide the audiences with an excerpt on how to start the procedures for patenting in Norway in English language.

Like in every sovereign states, the claims in Norway also must meet relevant patentability requirements, such as non-obviousness and novelty.

Not surprisingly, in Norway patents are granted for the public disclosure and corresponding protection for the assignee for a limited period of time and cost an application fee less than USPTO's cost.

In the website of the Norwegian Industrial Property Office you may find lots of information in Norwegian language. The overview of Patenting in Norway (in English) provided by DHZ can be downloaded here. You are also welcome to revert back to us with your feedback or inquires about the patenting procedure in Norway or other Scandinavian countries.

Osmotic power pilot plant to generate 2MW in Norway

2/12/2013

IDE Technologies has entered into an agreement with renewable energy company Statkraft to develop a 2 mega-watt Osmotic Power Generation pilot plant in Sunndalsøra, Norway.

Osmotic Energy is a method for producing energy from the mix of fresh water and seawater. Estimates suggest osmotic power alone has a global potential of 1600 to 1700 TWh – the same as China’s total electricity consumption in 2002.
The process works whereby fresh water and salt water are separated, divided by an artificial membrane. Salt molecules in the seawater pull freshwater through the membrane. This increases pressure on the seawater side, which can be used in a power generating turbine.

Under the agreement, IDE will design and later purchase and construct the pilot plant, which will be based on existing technology used in desalination and other industries.
Membranes for the facility are likely to be sourced from supplier Nitto Denko/Hydranautics, after Statkraft signed an agreement back in June 2011.
As part of this new agreement, IDE will design the energy recovery system and the fresh water and seawater pre-treatment.

On the Sunndalsøra development, Statkraft said freshwater for the pilot facility can be collected from the outlet tunnel from the Aura power plant, while seawater can be pumped from a depth of 40 metres further out in the fjord.
Statkraft opened its osmotic power prototype facility in Tofte, Norway, which has been operating since 2009. The facility is also used for testing components, processes and membranes.
Dr. Boris Liberman, VP & CTO Membrane Technology of IDE, said the company has been researching Osmotic Energy production for some time now. He believes this process can result in driving costs down while increasing net energy output.
